During the past year of operation, many initiatives relating to
CSR have taken place, although not under the headline of CSR.
During 2011, CSR will be organized in a way that these initiatives
are managed in a more consistent manner, so progress can be tracked
and results reported.
As a first step towards a more structured approach to CSR, we
reported the CSR initiatives that have taken place in our annual
report for 2010. The reporting was structured following the 10
principles of the United Nations Global Compact. During 2011,
Nordic Tankers has signed the UN Global Compact, and we have
committed ourselves to continuous improvement in this field.
The focus of our CSR initiatives are on areas within our sphere
of control: Employees in Nordic Tankers, at sea and ashore, and
assets either owned and/or technically managed by Nordic Tankers.
We will also participate actively in CSR initiatives across the
industry, through participation in the CSR committee in The Danish
Ship Owners' Association and by following guidelines and supporting
initiatives in IMO.
To Nordic Tankers CSR is not about charity, but it is about
assuming responsibility and taking part in the fundamental and
universal challenges concerning environment and climate, business
ethics, basic human rights and labour standards. Thus Nordic
Tankers' efforts will focus on supporting and taking initiatives in
areas that support long-term sustainable growth globally,
nationally and in the company.
